The Task Force on Audit & Ethics (TFAE) was set up by the EUROSAI Governing Board in 2011, following the conclusions and recommendations of the VIII EUROSAI Congress with regard to the theme Challenges, demands and responsibilities of public managers and the role of Supreme Audit Institutions. Given the increasing importance of ethics and integrity in public governance, the need for the active involvement of SAIs in addressing the widespread economic and value breakdowns has become particularly evident.  The Governing Board entrusted the TFAE to facilitate and guide a more structured role for SAIs in this field.

The TFAE aims to:

     1.      Promote the relevance of ethical conduct and integrity in Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) and

2.      Promote ethical conduct in public sector organisations, through the SAIs’ audit activities.

To fulfil these goals, the TFAE has developed activities in the following areas:
          a.      Making comparative studies
          b.      Designing guidelines and other practical tools
          c.      Sharing information and experiences with the SAIs’ community through meetings and seminars,                            videos, articles and the webpage

               d.      Cooperating with other partners, such as OECD, ECIIA and Universities

The TFAE has been working according to three-year working plans, specifying activities, timeframes and expected results and distributing roles between themselves in a spirit of mutual support and cooperation. Annual member meetings as well as remote collaboration contribute both to coordinating activities in the working plan and to producing results.

SAIs that have been involved in the TFAE, to date, include those of Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, the European Court of Auditors, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal (Chair), Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Turkey and United Kingdom.

Other European SAIs are always welcome to join, by contacting the Chair of the TFAE at any time with their request to join the group or simply by joining particular activities.
